Health Research and Analysis, LLC (HRA) presents a successful model of partnership with federal and non-federal entities to support the initiation and implementation of partners’ research and evaluation agendas. Data-driven products and solutions provided by HRA have informed policymakers and the clinical and research communities to initiate, evaluate, and enhance health-related programs and initiatives in the areas of deployment health; occupational and environmental health; and chronic conditions, psychological conditions, and injuries.
Recent Case Studies
For the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), World Trade Center Health Program (WTCHP) – Health Program Evaluation Contract
HRA evaluates program performance and develops metrics to monitor treatment services provided to 9/11 responders and survivors in order to examine compliance, cost, appropriateness, and health outcomes. Results are routinely used to update benefit plans and initiate quality improvement activities.
For the U. S. Department of Veterans Affairs Office of Patient Care Services – Pre- and Post-Deployment Registries Support
HRA supported the data management, study design, statistical analysis, and reporting for the following patient registries: Agent Orange (AOR), Gulf War (GWR), and Airborne Hazard and Open Burn Pit (AHOBPR).
For the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs – The Longitudinal Study of a New Generation of U.S. Veterans
HRA supported the design and implementation of a 10-year longitudinal study of veterans deployed in Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom and for non-deployed veterans. Support included design and implementation of a multimode survey, instrument development and pilot testing, and a verification study using data abstracted from medical records.
For the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Office of Research and Development – National Vietnam Veterans Readjustment Study
HRA conducted a retrospective mortality study among a cohort of 2,348 Vietnam veterans enrolled in the National Vietnam Veterans Readjustment Study to establish vital status, mortality experience, and cause of death. Results were published in the American Journal of Epidemiology.
For the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) Coordination of Care for HIV/Hepatitis Initiative
HRA provided data retrieval, management, analysis, and reporting support for programs that foster the delivery of prevention, treatment, and recovery services for behavioral health and substance use disorders within racial and ethnic minority communities most impacted by HIV/AIDs. In this pursuit, HRA provided technical assistance and training to over 100 grantees.
For the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) – Electronic Behavioral Health Record (EBHR): Evaluation, Metrics, and Reporting
HRA provided technical assistance for data quality and program evaluation in support of treatment outcomes measurement. Opioid treatments services, cost, and outcomes were explored.
For the U.S. Army Public Health Center (USAPHC) Injury Prevention Division – A Study of Medical Supplement Health Effects
HRA conducted a case-control study using multivariate statistical techniques to assess associations between supplement use and the risk of selected adverse medical health effects among U.S. Army soldiers, adjusting for behavioral, demographic, and military characteristics. Results were presented to the Surgeon General to inform policy decisions.
For National Institutes of Health (NIH)/National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR) Office of Science Policy and Analysis – Oral Health Care Expenditures and Utilization, 1990 – 2010
HRA conducted evaluation and econometric analyses to elucidate the health and economic outcomes of NIDCR-funded research. Results were presented in a technical report and are being drafted for publication.

HRA’s products and solutions consistently withstand the peer-review process and reflect the rigor of our research and HRA’s creative and thoughtful approaches to data analysis. As a result, our work appears as peer-reviewed manuscripts, presentations, and technical reports. HRA team members work closely with investigators to advise them on study methodology, data requirements, and appropriate statistical techniques and, consequently, to conduct the analysis and draft technical reports, presentations, and manuscripts.
